This site is a Wiki Wiki Web site — a collaborative authoring system that allows multiple people to edit a common set of pages via the World Wide Web.

Editing

To edit a page, simply click the edit or Edit Page link or tab (depending on your version of the wiki), and then modify the text in any way you want. Yes, you can even edit pages others have created — that’s part of Wiki Nature.

When you click edit, the wiki will provide you with a new screen. This screen has two scroll-bars - one just for the edit box itself, and the other, usual one for the whole screen.

Click inside the edit box; scroll down in the edit box if you need to, to find the part of the page you want to work on; make your changes. After you edit the page, scroll down with the whole-screen scroll-bar to see that just below the edit box are buttons for Preview and Save.

  • If you click Preview, the screen will refresh with the edit box at the top, and the preview at the bottom of the page - so use that whole-screen scroll-bar to see the preview.
  • When you’re done making changes, put your name, initials or nickname (the convention is to run together your FirstnameLastname, with initial capital letters) in the “Author” field and then click Save.

Formatting

The rules for basic page editing are fairly simple — start each line without spaces and put a blank line between paragraphs. There is a simple “cheat-sheet” just below the “Save” and “Preview” buttons, and there are more Text Formatting Rules for lists and other specialized text, if you want to do that. You can edit the Wiki Sandbox page if you want to try things out in a way that won’t affect any of the pages on this site.

Links

To create references to other pages, [[double bracket]] words to create a page title. This automatically creates a hyperlink. Make titles for New Subjects?, even if you don’t have anything to say about them. Maybe someone will come along and fill out a page for the new link.

After you Save a page, click the ? after any new links to edit the pages they point to, and add text.

A page’s full name is the name of the WikiGroup in which it is located, followed by its Page Title, thus: GroupName.PageTitle, for example Main.HomePage. To refer to a page in the current group, write its PageTitle. To refer to a page in another group, write its full name.

Organizing

Not sure how best to organize a collection of wiki pages? The Wiki Structure guide describes the options.
